CARNIVAL 2022

EXHIBITIONS

This exhibition as 'carnival' because we see the same inactivity in people who go to carnivals in pursuit of pleasure, in the exhibition viewer as well. In carnival, it is not the viewer who drives the motorbike in the deadly well. On behalf of us the bike rider engages in the daring feat of riding. The viewer is inactive. Jokers show us how to enjoy the different shows in the carnival. We don't have to laugh. They themselves laugh on behalf of us. We have assigned the act of us enjoying, to be done by another. We see this in today's artworks too. When it is difficult for the artwork to provide enjoyment or satisfaction, the artist has become a speaker in social media like a joker in a carnival, supplying enjoyment. To reflect these characteristics of our society it have named this exhibition Carnival.

This moment is a moment that fosters a problematic social, political, economical and religious environment. Locally and internationally, war is being engulfing peace and freedom is being engulfed by fear, and shaping the common system. The outer appearance of the system shows a virtuous carnival mood that is antagonistic to the inner problematic fears. The society is like a carnival where in the inside there is displaced diversities, connected with tastes and pleasures. It is just a pretense.

As a common element to political, economic and religious elements, a cockfight is created as an artwork for this exhibition. In it, the chicken is a common signifier of the entire society. Since more than 6000 years ago the rooster has been there in with humans, connected with religious and cultural traditions, rituals and ideologies. Through this animal, the works tries to reflect the society.

Cockfighting is present in civilizations of the world as an entertaining game and roosters are connected with religious rituals. On the surface, the rooster is representative of a formal ceremony and the enjoyment of a festival. But the surface shapes hide the conflicts, barbarism and crises which are within, just like in our society. Today the outer shapes of the society have a beauty that shows friendship and harmony which contrasts with the inner, religious, political, economic and cultural conflicts that are not friendly.
